- Remembering September 11, 2001: Honoring the Lives Lost and the Resilience of a Nation
Today marks the anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks — a day etched into the memory of our nation and the world. On that morning, nearly 3,000 innocent lives were lost in New York City, Washington D.C., and Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Thousands more were forever changed, from the families who mourn their loved ones to the first responders who bravely rushed into danger. In New York, the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center became the focal point of both tragedy and heroism. Firefighters, police officers, EMTs, and countless civilians risked and sacrificed their lives to save others. At the Pentagon, military and civilian personnel faced unimaginable devastation, while in a Pennsylvania field, passengers on Flight 93 demonstrated extraordinary courage, preventing further loss of life. Each year, communities across the country pause to reflect, mourn, and honor those we lost. Memorial services, moments of silence, and the reading of names remind us not only of the pain of that day but also of the unity that followed. Neighbors helped neighbors, strangers became family, and the spirit of resilience defined what it means to be American. As we look back, we also look forward — ensuring that future generations understand the lessons of 9/11. We remember the bravery, the heartbreak, and the determination to rise again. Most importantly, we recommit ourselves to never forgetting the lives cut short and to honoring them by building a future defined by compassion, strength, and unity. Today, we stand together in remembrance. Today, we stand together in remembrance.

- Fact Check: Statement from Governor Kathy Hochul on Trump, the WTC Health Program, and the 9/11 Memorial Museum
Governor Kathy Hochul issued the following statement: “Just months after slashing funding for the World Trade Center Health Program that cares for survivors and first responders, President Trump now wants to take over the 9/11 Memorial Museum. The 9/11 Memorial belongs to New Yorkers — the families, survivors, and first responders who have carried this legacy for more than two decades and ensured we never forget. Before he meddles with this sacred site, the President should start by honoring survivors and supporting the families of victims.” We fact-checked this claim: 1. “Slashing funding for the World Trade Center Health Program” The Trump administration carried out staffing reductions at HHS in 2025, which included some positions at the World Trade Center Health Program (WTCHP) . Critics — including Hochul and Senators Schumer and Gillibrand — framed this as “slashing funding.” In reality, the WTCHP’s funding is legally guaranteed through 2090 under the James Zadroga Act. Survivors and first responders continue to receive care. The cuts were part of a broader effort to reduce bureaucracy , not a defunding of the program. ✅ Verdict: Misleading. The program’s funding was not slashed. Survivor care remains funded and active. 2. “Trump wants to take over the 9/11 Memorial Museum” It’s accurate that the Trump administration has discussed federal involvement , potentially designating the 9/11 Memorial and Museum as a national monument . Supporters argue this would ensure long-term preservation, federal resources, and national recognition for a tragedy that impacted the entire country, not just New York. While critics call it meddling, this remains only at the discussion stage , with no formal federal takeover in place. ✅ Verdict: True — discussions are happening, but no takeover has occurred. Overall Assessment Governor Hochul’s statement contains exaggerations . Trump did not “slash” survivor health funding — the program’s budget is locked in by law. The idea of federal involvement in the 9/11 Memorial Museum is real, but it is preliminary and aimed at elevating the site nationally , not seizing it from New Yorkers. Framed more fairly, Trump’s actions reflect government efficiency and a push to ensure the nation never forgets 9/11 by potentially raising the memorial to a federally recognized site of remembrance. - Powerball Jackpot Climbs to $1.7 Billion, Third Largest in U.S. Lottery History
By The NY Pulse The Powerball jackpot has surged to an astonishing $1.7 billion , making it the third largest in U.S. lottery history after no winning tickets were drawn in Wednesday night’s game. The winning numbers—[insert actual numbers once released]—produced smaller prize winners across the country, but none matched all six numbers needed to secure the record-breaking grand prize. The next drawing is scheduled for Saturday night at 10:59 p.m. ET . The Growing Frenzy The jackpot has been steadily climbing for weeks as players across the nation try their luck. With long odds of 1 in 292.2 million, lottery officials say the rising jackpot reflects both the difficulty of hitting the winning combination and the overwhelming number of tickets being purchased. Convenience stores and gas stations nationwide reported long lines Thursday morning, with some players buying tickets in bulk in hopes of changing their lives overnight. “It’s the dream of financial freedom,” one hopeful buyer said. “Even though I know the odds, someone has to win.” Historical Context At $1.7 billion, the jackpot trails only the world-record $2.04 billion Powerball prize won in California in November 2022 and the $1.765 billion Powerball jackpot claimed in October 2023 . Both winners opted for lump-sum cash payments worth hundreds of millions after taxes. If a single player wins Saturday’s drawing, they could choose between receiving the full jackpot spread out over 30 years or a one-time lump-sum cash value estimated at more than $800 million before federal and state taxes. Economic and Social Buzz Large lottery jackpots often spark economic ripple effects, from surges in state lottery revenue—much of which is allocated to education and public programs—to the online buzz that dominates social media whenever prize amounts climb into the billions. But experts caution that while jackpots grow, the odds remain the same. “Players should view this as entertainment, not an investment strategy,” said one lottery analyst. What’s Next The next Powerball drawing will take place Saturday night, with millions expected to tune in and millions more buying last-minute tickets. Whether the $1.7 billion prize will finally be claimed—or continue climbing toward another record—remains to be seen. Until then, hopeful players across the country will be clutching their tickets, imagining what they might do with a billion-dollar windfall.
- The Epidemic of 3D Printed Junk
By The NY Pulse 3D printing has been hailed as one of the most disruptive technologies of the 21st century. From custom prosthetics and aerospace components to experimental food printing, the possibilities seem endless. Yet alongside the breakthroughs, a growing shadow looms: the epidemic of 3D printed junk. Once celebrated as a tool that could democratize manufacturing, 3D printing has, in many ways, been co-opted by a culture of disposability and unrealistic business hype. While the technology’s potential remains revolutionary, its unchecked proliferation raises critical concerns about intellectual property, the environment, and the commercialization of a “maker dream” that often doesn’t match reality. Intellectual Property: A New Frontline for Artists For digital artists, designers, and independent creators, 3D printing has become a double-edged sword. On platforms where files for figurines, toys, and collectibles are shared, original works are often uploaded, copied, and mass-produced without permission. Artists who once earned a living selling limited-edition sculptures or licensed designs are now finding cheap 3D printed replicas undercutting their work. Much like the early days of music and film piracy, 3D printing blurs the line between legitimate sharing and outright theft. For creators, it’s not just about losing profits—it’s about watching years of skill and effort reduced to disposable knockoffs that lack the quality, artistry, and intent of the original. Intellectual property law struggles to keep pace, leaving artists in a precarious position while “print farms” profit off their work. Environmental Fallout: Plastic Dreams, Plastic Waste The environmental cost of 3D printing is equally troubling. Most home printers rely on PLA or ABS plastic filament. While PLA is marketed as “biodegradable,” the reality is more complex—it requires industrial composting facilities to break down, and in landfills, it behaves much like conventional plastic. ABS, meanwhile, is a petroleum-based material with no easy recycling pathway. Millions of keychains, figurines, and “life hacks” churned out on hobbyist machines often break within weeks, if not days, before ending up in the trash. Even failed prints—misaligned layers, clogged nozzles, or collapsed structures—add to the growing pile of waste. As 3D printing scales, environmentalists worry that it will mirror the single-use plastic crisis already choking ecosystems worldwide. The irony is stark: a technology touted as “sustainable” because of its ability to print on demand and reduce shipping footprints may, in practice, be fueling yet another plastic pollution problem. The Business Dream vs. Reality A key driver of the 3D printed junk epidemic is the seductive promise sold to aspiring entrepreneurs. Social media and online courses are flooded with pitches claiming that a simple printer, some filament, and a little creativity can launch a six-figure business. Countless YouTube tutorials show how to “turn your printer into passive income” by selling trinkets on Etsy, eBay, or Amazon. The reality, however, is often sobering. The market is oversaturated with identical products, competition drives prices to rock-bottom, and many small sellers struggle to cover even their material and electricity costs. Customers, meanwhile, are left with cheaply made goods that quickly end up in junk drawers—or the trash. In effect, the same marketing machine that once promised riches through drop-shipping and print-on-demand T-shirts is now fueling an industry of 3D printed waste. Responsible Printing vs. Problematic Commercialization Not all 3D printing is problematic. In fact, the technology continues to deliver extraordinary innovations when applied responsibly. Medical labs are printing custom implants and prosthetics that improve lives. Engineers use 3D printing to prototype faster and cheaper, accelerating innovation. Educators employ printers to teach problem-solving, design, and engineering skills to students. The problem lies in the mass commercialization of low-value, disposable objects. When 3D printing is used for problem-solving, customization, or sustainable design, it fulfills its promise. But when the focus shifts to profit-driven “junk printing,” the consequences ripple through art, the environment, and consumer culture. The Road Ahead The future of 3D printing will depend on how society navigates this tension. Will regulations and recycling solutions emerge to curb plastic waste? Will stronger intellectual property protections safeguard artists and designers? And will aspiring entrepreneurs learn to pursue meaningful applications rather than falling into the trap of junk production? The answers remain unclear. What is clear, however, is that without careful stewardship, one of the most promising technologies of our time risks being remembered not for innovation—but for the mountains of disposable trinkets it left behind.
