  • 102nd Birthday of Mr. Stanley Portzeba

    Members of the Sheriff’s Office were honored to acknowledge the 102nd Birthday of Mr. Stanley Portzeba of Whitesboro at a breakfast this morning at the Boulevard Diner. Stanley is one of Oneida County’s oldest living Veterans and a big supporter of law enforcement.  Stanley was previously given Honorary Sheriff’s Credentials when he turned 100, so today he was presented a plaque for his 102nd Birthday. Thank you for your service!

  • Oneida County's FAA UAS Test Site at Griffiss Extended Another 5 Years

    Oneida County's Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Test Site at Griffiss International Airport in Rome has received reauthorization from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), granting an extension of its designation for another five years, running through 2028. This significant announcement was made by U.S. Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer, emphasizing the pivotal role of the test site in advancing research and development within the drone industry. The Test Site, operated in partnership with AX Enterprize, has been at the forefront of pioneering the capabilities of unmanned flights and spearheading innovative UAS technology. The extension is crucial for driving continued advancements in UAS research, facilitating safe UAS operations in the national airspace, and fostering economic development within the UAS industry across the region.

  • Congratulations to Officer Jacob Kittelberger and his K-9 partner "Freddie" on their successful graduation from the K-9 Basic Patrol School!

    Officer Kittelberger and K-9 Freddie participated in an 11-week training program that consisted of intensive instruction.  The training included subjects like building clearing, tracking and the apprehension of fleeing suspects. Officer Kittelberger and K-9 Freddie are now prepared to answer the call of K-9 duties on the 3rd platoon patrol division. K-9 Freddie was named after former Syracuse Police Officer, Fredric L. Brough Jr. who passed away on Saturday, June 24th, 2023.  Officer Brough served as a K-9 handler from 1999 to 2013.  Officer Brough was awarded the Syracuse Police Department's "Hendrick's" Medal in 2001 which is awarded to officers for extreme bravery.  Several members of Officer Brough's family were present at the ceremony. Officer Kittelberger and K-9 Freddie's dedication, hard work, and commitment to protecting and serving the community will enhance the strength of the Syracuse Police Department.  Here's to many years of exemplary service together.

  • Wanted Individual Struck Officer On Head With Lamp

    On May 29th, 2024 at approximately 2:00PM New York State Parole Officers located a wanted individual who was absconding from Parole at a residence on the 600 block of South St. Upon attempting to arrest the individual, he immediately began to actively resist and fight with them. During the course of his resisting, he grabbed a table lamp and struck one Parole Officer across the head with it. He then began to choke the officer, and attempted to gouge his eyes with his fingers. At this point multiple other Parole Officers attempted to take the male into custody, however he continued his aggressive resistance until pepper spray was deployed at him. At that point the officers were able to secure him into handcuffs, and Utica Police Officers arrived. The male, Albert Marone age 52 of Utica was then transported to the Utica Police Department.   • UPDATED: Troopers Investigating a rollover tractor-trailer crash on NYS Thruway

    On Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at about 5:30 a.m., State Troopers responded to a rollover tractor-trailer crash on the NYS Thruway, I-287 eastbound, on the Exit 12 ramp to I-95 northbound in the town of Rye, Westchester County.  I-287 remains closed at the ramp, and eastbound traffic is being diverted to I-95 south. The closure will continue while crews remove the crashed vehicle and debris and repair the damaged guide rail. Westchester County EMS transported the tractor-trailer driver to Stamford Hospital in Connecticut for treatment of minor injuries. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.   • Woman Shot claim results in 2 arrested and house searched for drugs, guns & more

    On May 15th, 2024 at approximately 2:45 PM Utica Police units were dispatched to a residence on the 100 block of Barton Ave regarding a female who was claiming to have been shot at while attempting to retrieve property. Upon arrival, officers were able to locate the victim who repeated the claim. Officers then set up a perimeter around the home and attempted to make contact with someone at the residence. Eventually, a male came to the front door, and while speaking with him another male attempted to flee out the back door. Based on the totality of the incident both males were detained and a protective sweep of the residence was undertaken to ensure that no injured parties were inside. While inside they located a female who was detained per the investigation as well. Furthermore immediately upon entry, the officers noticed, in plain view, a long rifle and significant narcotics-related contraband. Following the sweep, it was determined that a search warrant would need to be applied to attempt to locate the handgun, as well as the narcotics-related evidence. The residence was secured and ultimately the warrant was signed and executed. During the course of the search, the officers and investigators located a loaded 9mm handgun, a .22 long rifle, a replica pellet gun long rifle, various calibers of ammunition, cocaine, methamphetamine, numerous controlled substance pills, and a multitude of packaging, cutting agents, scales, and other drug paraphernalia. This evidence was secured and transported to the Utica Police Department.   • Utica Narcotics Bust

    After a lengthy investigation into complaints of the sale and distribution of narcotics, Utica Police Special Investigations Unit investigators, along with members of the UPD Patrol Division, and Oneida County Sheriff Narcotics Unit, conducted a search warrant on the person, residence, and storage unit of Antonio Ware age 39 of 301 Elizabeth St. During the execution of the warrant investigators located over 130g of cocaine, a loaded handgun, and over $14,000 in cash.   • Armed Burglary Stopped in the Act by Utica Police

    On May 24th, 2024 at approximately 6:00 PM Utica Police units were dispatched to a residence on the 1000 block of Mohawk St regarding a possible burglary/trespass investigation. Upon arrival, they spoke with the caller who stated that a male whom she was familiar with had made entry into her residence and was currently in a back hallway. The officers then went to the location and noticed the male described. At this point, they further noticed that he was wearing a bag around his chest. As the male saw the police coming, he retreated back into the hallway and discarded the bag. After some moments he came back out without the bag and was detained for the investigation. As the officers inspected the bag, they were able to feel what they believed to be a handgun inside. Upon further investigation, they found the weapon to be a loaded 9mm handgun. At that point, the male was transported to the Utica Police Department, and at the conclusion of the investigation, Timothy Cubbage age 34 of Utica was charged with: Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the second degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree x2 (Previous Conviction, extended magazine) Criminal Possession of a Firearm.   • Three Vehicle Car Accident on Rt.12

    According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, the accident occurred at approximately 07:20 AM on Rt.12 North Bound involving three vehicles that had Rt.12 shut down for a brief time. Whitney J. Bourgeois 30, and Jill M. Paschke 44 were both stopped on Rt. 12 behind a stopped school bus when Renee M. Marcellus 70, failed to stop and struck the vehicles from behind. Marcellus' vehicle then skidded sideways and rolled over into the ditch from the impact. The school bus was not involved in the accident. Marcellus was then extricated from her vehicle and transported to Wynn Hospital for chest pain and left leg pain. Marcellus was treated at the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Paschke was also transported to Wynn Hospital for back pain and neck pain. Paschke was treated at the Wynn for non-life-threatening injuries. Bourgeois was not injured during the accident. After further investigation into the accident, it was learned that Marcellus did not pay attention to the roadway and did not see the two vehicles and school buses that were stopped ahead of her. Marcellus was issued multiple traffic citations returnable to Boonville Town Court on a later date. The Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Boonville Fire Department, Boonville Ambulance, and New York State Police.

  • Alleged Frying Pan Assault & Robbery Leads to Frankfort Man Arrest

    According to Oneida County Sheriff, Robert Maciol on May 21st, 2024, Stephen A. Leuenberger, 35 of Frankfort, was arrested for Attempted Robbery in the 2nd degree and Assault in the 2nd degree, both class D felonies. At approximately 6:30 PM on May 20, 2024, Leuenberger was involved in a physical altercation with his boss over money. During this dispute, it is alleged that Leuenberger struck his boss in the head with a frying pan of all things, while demanding that he give him money. Following the altercation, both parties were transported to the Wynn Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and released later that night. After an investigation into the matter by OCSO patrol deputies and the criminal investigation unit, Leuenberger was arrested, booked, and transported to the Oneida County Jail to await arraignment at Oneida County CAP Court.   • Troopers arrested a female from Newburgh for a fatal hit-run that occurred on March 1, 2024

    On May 18, 2024, State Police announced the arrest of Angela Fischl, age 25, from Newburgh, New York, stemming from a fatal hit-and-run accident that occurred on March 1, 2024, in the town of Marlboro, where two pedestrians were struck and killed. On March 1, 2024, at approximately 9:23 p.m., Troopers and Investigators from the Highland Barracks responded to the scene of a hit-and-run accident near 1348 State Route 9W. Fischl was traveling southbound in her vehicle when she struck two pedestrians attempting to cross State Route 9W. After striking the victims, she continued south until a Town of Newburgh Police Department patrol unit stopped her. An exhaustive investigation was conducted by the State Police, which resulted in an arrest warrant being issued for Ms. Fischl for two counts of leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death. She was remanded to Ulster County Jail.

  • State Police arrested a male for Robbery with a machete

    On May 17, 2024, at approximately 1:06 P.M., Troopers out of SP Hastings responded to 46 Pinnacle Road, town of West Monroe for a robbery. A preliminary investigation revealed that a male, later identified as Michael J. Burke, age 35 from West Monroe allegedly threatened a shovel and then a machete to a victim who was outside. Burke allegedly took the victim's wallet and ran away. No injuries were reported by the victim.
