Impaired Driver with Active Warrant Arrested after Multi-Vehicle Crash on Southern State Parkway

On May 23rd, 2025 at approximately 3:30 am, New York State Troopers responded to a one car accident involving a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee on the Southern State Parkway, just east of the Belt Parkway. The Jeep Grand Cherokee was unable to be moved from the right lane resulting in Troopers having to position their marked patrol vehicle behind it with their emergency lights activated. Flares were placed to potentially avoid any issues and ensure the public’s safety.After the Troopers exited their vehicle, a 2024 black BMW 530 struck an uninvolved 2023 Toyota Camry, causing it to collide with the Troop car resulting in significant damage. The BMW then proceeded to strike the Jeep Grand Cherokee. After the collision, the operator of the BMW attempted to walk away from the scene. Troopers observed this individual and interviewed him. Troopers determined that the driver showed signs of intoxication and took him into custody. The driver provided a name that was later revealed to be a false identity.  Investigation revealed the suspect’s true identity to be Messiah Robinson, age 23 of Brooklyn. Robinson also has an active bench warrant issued by the NYPD for Menacing a Police Officer. Robinson refused a breath test and Standardized Field Sobriety tests.Robinson was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Reckless Endangerment 2nd, Criminal Impersonation 2nd, and numerous Vehicle and Traffic Law violations. Robinson is due at Nassau 1st district court on June 13th.As we approach the “100 Deadliest Days of Summer”, the New York State Police would like to remind the public of the serious and shared responsibility of driving. If you are under the influence of alcohol or any substance that impairs judgment, choose an alternative method of transportation. Plan to have a designated driver, call or order a ride share, or avoid driving entirely if you are not able to do so safely. Do NOT put the lives of others at risk because of your selfish decisions.
