Police investigate a motorcycle fatal in the town of Lewis

On June 29, 2025, at approximately 2:10 a.m., New York State Police responded to a motorcycle accident at the intersection of County Route 10 and Hurley Road in the town of Lewis.

An investigation revealed that Jeffrey E. Charles, a 56-year-old resident of Westport, NY, was riding a black 2008 Harley-Davidson east on County Route 10. He lost control of the motorcycle while navigating a curve, causing the bike and himself to exit the road and strike a tree, which resulted in Charles being ejected from the motorcycle.

Elizabethtown and Lewis EMS arrived at the scene and provided life-saving measures to Charles. He was transported to Elizabethtown Community Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

This is an ongoing investigation.
