Syracuse Man Arrested Following Traffic Stop in Oneida County NY

Sherrill, NY – On July 27, 2025, New York State Police from SP Oneida conducted a traffic stop on a 2024 Nissan Altima in the city of Sherrill after receiving a BOLO from Madison County 911 regarding a vehicle operating erratically in the city of Oneida.

The operator, identified as Edwight LaFlair, age 27, of Syracuse, was exhibiting signs of impairment and failed Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. He was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated.

During an inventory of the vehicle, troopers discovered narcotics, a loaded handgun with a defaced serial number, and other drug-related paraphernalia.

LaFlair later provided a breath sample at SP Oneida, which registered a .12% BAC.

A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of the following:

  • Approximately 139.8 grams of cocaine

  • Approximately 12.4 grams of fentanyl

  • Two Glock handguns (Models 17 and 40)

  • A 33-round high-capacity magazine

  • Ammunition

  • Additional drug-related items

As a result of the investigation, LaFlair was arrested and charged with:

  • Driving While Intoxicated (Misdemeanor)

  • Willful Defacement of a Firearm (Class D Felony)

  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree (Class C Felony)

  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree (Class D Felony)

  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree (Class B Felony)

  • Numerous Vehicle and Traffic Law violations

LaFlair was transported to the Oneida County Jail pending arraignment at CAP Court.

The investigation was conducted by SP Oneida Uniform and BCI members, with assistance from the Troop D Violent Gang and Narcotics Enforcement Team (VGNET).
