*UPDATE* State Police Investigating Fatal Shooting in the City of Beacon NY

UPDATE: July 22,2025
On July 21, 2025, at approximately 9:02 p.m., the City of Beacon Police Department responded to a private residence on Rombout Avenue following a 911 call placed by Edison Irizarry, 52, of Beacon, NY, who stated he had shot his roommate.
Upon arrival, officers located 58-year-old Casey Cuddy also of Beacon, NY, deceased inside the residence from an apparent gunshot wound.
As a result of the investigation, Edison Irizarry, a retired City of Beacon Police Officer, was taken into custody and charged with the following:
• Murder in the Second Degree (Class A -1 Felony) • Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (Class C felony) • Criminal Possession of a Firearm (Class E Felony)
Irizarry was arraigned in the City of Beacon Court and remanded to Dutchess County Jail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 25, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.
The New York State Police would like to thank the City of Beacon Police Department and the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office for their assistance in this investigation.
This investigation remains ongoing.

Beacon, NY – On July 21, 2025, at approximately 9:02 p.m., the City of Beacon Police Department responded to a residence on Rombout Avenue following a 911 call from a male who reported he had shot his roommate.Responding officers located a 58-year-old male victim inside the residence, deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.The investigation has been turned over to the New York State Police, who are working in coordination with the City of Beacon Police Department and the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office.There is no threat to public safety. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
