Utica NY Man Arrested in Connection to August Assault on Genesee Street

Utica, NY – The Utica Police Department has announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with an unprovoked assault that occurred last month on Genesee Street.

On August 19, 2025, officers responded to a report of an assault in the 1400 block of Genesee Street around 8:00 p.m. Police say the victim sustained multiple facial fractures and continues to suffer from the effects of the attack.

Following several public appeals for information, a community member—working with the Mohawk Valley Crime Analysis Center—provided a crucial tip that led to the positive identification of the suspect.

On September 22, 2025, patrol units located and arrested Mohamed Momoh, 24, of Utica. He has been charged with Assault in the Third Degree.

Police expressed gratitude to the public for their assistance throughout the investigation, crediting community cooperation as a key factor in bringing the case to a resolution.
