Man Arrested Following Hit-and-Run Crash Resulting in Serious Injury

The New York State Police have arrested a Marcellus man in connection with a hit-and-run crash that resulted in serious physical injuries to a pedestrian in the town of Skaneateles.
On February 8, 2026, at approximately 4:00 p.m., State Police in Elbridge were notified of a possible hit-and-run personal injury crash that had occurred the previous evening on Mottville Road in the town of Skaneateles, Onondaga County.
The investigation determined that on February 7, 2026, at approximately 5:00 p.m., a 45-year-old male of Skaneateles was operating a snow blower in a driveway along Mottville Road when he was struck by a passing pickup truck. The vehicle continued eastbound on Mottville Road without stopping.
The victim was transported to Upstate University Hospital, where he was treated for serious internal injuries. He remains under medical care.
Through witness interviews and review of neighborhood surveillance footage, investigators identified the suspect vehicle as a green 2006 Chevrolet Silverado equipped with a yellow front plow and black bed cap. The vehicle was later located at a residence on Shepard Road in the town of Marcellus.
Following further investigation, Mitchell John Collins, age 31, of Marcellus, was arrested on February 12, 2026.
Collins was charged with:
Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Serious Physical Injury, a class E felony
Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the 3rd Degree, a misdemeanor
Collins was processed and issued appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Skaneateles Court at a later date.
