Suspicious Vehicle Complaint Leads to Drug Arrest in Verona NY

On April 17, 2025, the New York State Police arrested Kimberlee Pontello, age 37, of Camillus, NY, for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th degree (Class A misdemeanor).

At approximately 3:51 a.m., Troopers from SP Oneida responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on Senn Road in the Town of Verona, Oneida County. Upon arrival, Troopers interviewed the vehicle’s occupants—a male driver and a female passenger. While speaking with the individuals, Troopers observed drug paraphernalia in plain view and requested both occupants to exit the vehicle.

A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a plastic container holding a substance later confirmed to be crystal methamphetamine. Pontello claimed ownership of the drugs and was taken into custody without incident. She was transported to SP Oneida for processing and released on an appearance ticket.

The investigation also revealed that the vehicle had switched license plates and had several vehicle and traffic law violations. The driver, Gary J. Schapp, age 43, of Munnsville, NY, was issued multiple traffic tickets.

The New York State Police were assisted on the scene by the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.
