Update: Cattle Located & Returned to Owner
On August 22, 2025, the New York State Police were contacted regarding cattle that had been located on Hax Road in La Fargeville, approximately four miles from their gated pasture on Dano Road. Three calves/steers were returned to their owner and secured.
As a result, the New York State Department of Transportation has removed the signage warning motorists of loose cattle on Interstate 81. The animals no longer pose a hazard to the public.
