Fleeing From the NY State Police Will NOT Prevent Arrest; We Will Find You.

New York State Police successfully arrested two individuals in two separate incidents that involved them both fleeing from traffic stops. The unrelated cases that occurred on September 1st, 2024, and April 18th, 2025, both have one common theme: fleeing from New York State Troopers does not work and will not work; you will get caught.
On September 1st, 2024, at approximately 10:18 PM, Troopers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a black BMW traveling at a high rate of speed on the Southern State Parkway near Exit 22. The driver refused to stop, initiating a short pursuit that ended when traffic brought the vehicle to a halt. As the Trooper began to exit their marked patrol vehicle, the BMW accelerated, striking the driver’s side door of the trooper car. The Trooper sustained minor non-life-threatening injuries and was able to return to duty. Due to the seriousness of the incident, the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation adopted the case and launched a comprehensive investigation. After eight months of diligent work, investigators identified and arrested the suspect, Oumar Janneh, age 21, on May 17, 2025. Janneh was charged with Assault 2nd (D Felony), Unlawful Fleeing (A Misdemeanor,) and Reckless Endangerment (A Misdemeanor).
In a separate incident on April 18th, 2025, at approximately 1:16 am, New York State Troopers attempted to stop a gray Nissan traveling eastbound in the area of exit 20N in the Town of Hempstead. The traffic stop was originally for the vehicle having a fraudulent registration that returned “not on file”. The Nissan initially stopped in the left lane, but then took of,f and a short pursuit was initiated. As Troopers approached, the driver initially stopped in the left lane but then sped off, prompting a short pursuit which was eventually terminated. A short time later, the Altima was found abandoned and locked. Once again, due to the seriousness of the incident New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations and Troopers launched a thorough investigation. Their commitment to justice and persistence paid off. On May 15th, 2025, the suspect, who was identified as Wilfredo Cabrera, age 24 of Brooklyn, was arrested as a result of their relentless efforts. Cabrera was charged with Reckless Endangerment 2nd (A Misdemeanor), Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle 3rd (A Misdemeanor), Reckless driving (A Misdemeanor), and multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law violations. Cabrera is due in courton June 4th, 2025.
