The New York State Police reports that an investigator assigned to the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force was injured this morning while assisting partner agencies with the execution of an arrest warrant in the City of Syracuse.

At approximately 8:15 a.m. on January 29, 2026, a State Police Investigator assigned to the New York State Police Troop D Felony Warrant Squad and detailed to the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force, was assisting members of the U.S. Marshals Service, the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, and New York State Parole at 2000 Lodi Street, Apartment B, Syracuse, as they attempted to execute an arrest warrant for Cedric Cundiff, age 67.

Cundiff is wanted in Massachusetts for Robbery in the First Degree related to an alleged gunpoint robbery of a store.

As members attempted to take Cundiff into custody, he barricaded himself inside a bedroom. While investigators approached the bedroom door, the investigator, who was positioned behind a protective shield, was injured during an altercation with the suspect. Cundiff was subsequently tased and taken into custody without further incident.

The State Police Investigator was transported to Upstate University in Syracuse with a stab wound to his hand and is expected to recover.

This investigation remains ongoing.
