State Police assist Gouverneur Police Department with a barricaded subject

On January 27, 2026, at approximately 12:01 p.m., New York State Police responded to Rock Island Street in the village of Gouverneur to assist the Gouverneur Police Department with a barricaded subject.

State Police members established a safety perimeter while the Gouverneur Police Chief and the New York State Police Troop B Crisis Negotiation Unit initiated communication with the subject. After approximately two hours of negotiations, the subject surrendered to law enforcement and was taken into custody without incident.

The Gouverneur Police Department is continuing the investigation.
