State Police Arrest Ohio Man for DWI Following Wrong-Way Incident on Palisades Interstate Parkway

On February 8, 2026, at approximately 3:30 a.m., troopers from the State Police Haverstraw barracks responded to a report of a wrong-way vehicle traveling on the Palisades Interstate Parkway near Exit 14 in the Town of Haverstraw.


Troopers located a 2020 Tesla traveling southbound in the northbound lanes near Exit 13. Troopers proceeded to the Exit 12 U-turn, where northbound traffic was stopped, and subsequently intercepted and stopped the vehicle.


While interviewing the driver, identified as Fabio M. Lopez, age 56, of Grove City, Ohio, troopers determined that he was intoxicated. Lopez was transported to State Police Haverstraw, where he submitted a chemical test to determine his blood alcohol content (BAC). The test revealed a BAC of 0.18 percent.


Lopez was arrested and charged with the following:


Driving While Intoxicated, 1st offense, unclassified misdemeanor

Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, per se, blood alcohol content of 0.18 percent or more, no prior offenses, unclassified misdemeanor

Reckless Driving, unclassified misdemeanor

Reckless Endangerment in the 2nd Degree, class A misdemeanor

Multiple Uniform Traffic Infractions

Lopez was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Haverstraw Court on March 5, 2026, at 9:00 a.m.
